Coming soon to theApp StoreWhich miles count?
Business miles: driving to pick up an order, between drops, and repositioning between zones while working. Your regular commute from home to a restaurant job doesn't count. For app-based drivers, the safest habit is logging miles per shift, every shift, with the date — a contemporaneous record is exactly what the IRS wants to see.
Standard rate or actual expenses?
The standard mileage rate replaces itemizing gas, maintenance, insurance, and depreciation — one rate covers it all, and for most part-time and full-time drivers it's both simpler and larger. If you deduct miles, don't also deduct gas for the same driving; it's one or the other.
